HERCA activities related to radon concern exchange of views aiming at assisting Member States in the transposition of the requirements related to radon introduced by the Council directive 13/59/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation (European BSS). The European BSS introduces the new concept of National Radon Action Plan for addressing long-term risks from radon exposures in dwellings, buildings with public access and workplaces for any source of radon ingress, whether from soil, building materials or water.

A 1st radon workshop dedicated to National Radon Action Plans has been organised by HERCA on 30 September-2 October 2014 in Montrouge (Paris, France).

The final report is available on NRPA and ASN websites: Radon National Action Plan - Report of an International Workshop.

On the basis of the main findings of this workshop and in the framework of the HERCA Action Plan on the transposition of the European BSS, HERCA organised a 2nd workshop on radon to deepen BSS requirements dedicated to radon in workplaces in order to facilitate the transposition works (Geneva, 12-14 October 2015).

HERCA Issued the Common understanding and recommendations related of the BSS requirements on radon in workplaces in May 2016.
