2nd HERCA Workshop on National Radon Action Plans
Following the work undertaken by HERCA on Radon…
The HERCA Radon National Action Plans Workshop was held on 21-23 June 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
More than 70 participants from 21 European countries and representatives of international organisations (EC, IAEA, WHO) gathered in a hybrid-mode workshop to evaluate the progress of HERCA member states with respect to implementation of National Radon Action Plans (NRAP) in Europe. The event was organised by the HERCA working group on Natural Radiation Sources (WGNAT), with the support of the Norwegian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).
The main aim of the workshop was to explore the progress made in each country and promote continuous improvement by sharing successes and weaknesses. ‘What reference levels have been adopted in different countries and on which basis? ’ ‘What are the best metrics to monitor the impact and effectiveness of the NRAP? ’ ‘How to achieve an optimised radon exposure at workplaces? ’ ‘What roles different stakeholders should play? ’ These are some of the questions, which were addressed in presentations and breakout sessions.
The report from the workshop and given national and international presentations will be available on the HERCA website in due time.
