Participation of HERCA in the International Workshop on the Implementation of Radon Dose Coefficients (April 2025, Bonn)
On April 8 and 9, HERCA’s representative of the WG NAT participated in the ‘International Workshop on the Implementation of Radon Dose Coefficients (RDC)’ which took place in Bonn, Germanyn and was jointly organised by BMUV and BfS.
In February 2024, the EU COM issued a recommendation calling on the Member States to apply the DC (Occupational Intakes of Radionuclides, last published in 2022) published by the ICRP for occupational radiation protection together with the EURATOM basic standard. For radon, these new RDCs mean that the radon activity concentration is doubled or quadrupled when converted into a dose.
A total of about 70 guests attended the workshop, including (from left to right on the picture above): Kaitlin Kammerlander (HERCA WG NAT member from Germany), Marcela Bercikova (from Cz), Mr Paquet (representative of the ICRP and main author of ICRP Recommendation 137 incl. occupational RDC) ; Heloisa Fonseca (IAEA) and Stefan Mundigl (EC).
Many authority representatives from European countries as well as representatives from the federal states in Germany also attended the workshop.
There is an internet contribution to the workshop on the BMUV homepage: https://www.bmuv.de/meldung/bmuv-und-bfs-veranstalten-internationalen-fachworkshop-zu-radon and a report on the workshop to be published.
