NORM & Building Materials | Common understanding of Euratom BSS directive requirements
HERCA, with the support of CSN, ASN, and NRPA, organised a Workshop on NORM and Building Materials on 24-26 May 2016 in Bergen (Norway).
The main objective of this workshop was to share the views and experiences regarding the on-going works dealing with the transposition of the Euratom BSS directive and the impact on the existing national approach and strategy.
HERCA issues the conclusions of the workshop and the “Common understanding of the Euratom BSS directive requirements and recommendations” detailling recommendations regarding NORM activities and legacy contamination and gamma radiation from building materials.
Conclusions of this workshop and of the two previous workshops on radon national plans and on radon exposure in workplaces highlight the need for a reinforced European lead in the field of natural ionising radiations. In particular, the workshop outcomes underline several issues for the transposition process in progress which merit consideration by a higher European level.
